I've been working on this on and off for a couple of weeks now, so it's nice to have it finished--and just in time for Imagine FX's 'Rising Stars' competition! (Wish me luck! )
It was inspired by a forest in Wales I once went to when I was younger, it looked like the most magical place you could find in the world; it had little running streams, beams of light shining down and the softest moss on the ground that felt amazing to lie down on. XD
So this piece is a recapture of my memory of that place, however with the inclusion of a forest spirit who tends to and protects the forest (but not in a nice way!). The spirit is vengeful and at times quite cruel. I spent ages thinking of ideas for a trail for the spirit to be following with help from *Deepsies (from pools of blood to an innocent animal to a sweet wrapper and an iPod and more!). In the end I settled on footprints embedded in the moss and a little necklace that had been left on the rock... The rest of the story is up to you!
It's also a bit of a spiritual successor to my previous painting from 2007, Forbidden Pool, I hope there is an improvement!
It's so good to be painting again, it feels like it's been ages! I've got a few more things in the works, but I'll have to be prioritising development on my final film for uni (more on that soon!) so the usual artwork may have to be postponed for now... ta ta for now!
Time consumed: 18 hours over a couple of weeks Software: Adobe Photoshop CS4, Wacom Intuos3, Macbook Pro Art ŠAmberDust 2011
Brilliant! I'm submerged immediately into the atmosphere of this piece! Really gorgeous work on the blues and greens and of course, the lighting! I love the spirit, she's awesome. The moss definitely looks very soft! Great work GemGem, I hope you win, you deserve it! Good luck!

Incidentally, a cheap ballpoint pen works just as well.
