Artist's Comments

This is digital painting of Van Fanel and Hitomi Kanzaki from the Vision of Escaflowne.
I've just spent the past one-two hours finishing the background off, and I've just declared it finished. There's only so much time you can work on the same piece!

I absolutely ADORE this couple, and I LOVE the charm of the anime style and artwork! I had a GREAT time CG'ing this, it was so FUN to do anime colouring-- I feel like I haven't coloured an anime picture in AGES!
Lol. ^^

I based it on two official wallpapers from the anime series and the movie, so I sort of merged the two concepts together and changed bits here and there. And the lineart wasn't done in Photoshop, I drew it first on paper with pen and ink.
I'm not completely sure about some of it, such as Hitomi's face and some of the anatomy went weird. But I think Van's face came out very well. ^^

I speed-painted the clouds and Mystic Moon/Earth and moon, 'cause no one was gonna notice any detail there anyway after I resized it. ^^;
I used a reference for the Earth (Africa and the Antartic is supposed to be visible) so it SHOULD be fairly accurate.

I really like the way I painted the wings, (even if I do say so myself) I think they came out wonderfully. :D
And sorry for the watermarks, I had a spot of trouble with a ripper lately. XD

Oh, and a last note, I didn't paint the small feathers flying about, (I got lazy -.-) they are thanks to angeldream's amazing feather brushes: [link]
Everything else is 100% me! :D

I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed painting it! ^^

Time spent: Roughly 10 hours, not including the lineart. XD
Tools: Adobe Photoshop CS and my beloved Wacom Intuos3 A5 Tablet.
Original Lineart: [link]
Reference: Official Escaflowne wallpapers.
Escaflowne "Van Fanel" and "Hitomi Kanzaki" İSunrise, TV Tokyo, and Bandai.
Original character designs İShoji Kawamori.

NASA spent millions of dollars to create a pen that works in space. Russia used a pencil.
Incidentally, a cheap ballpoint pen works just as well.

I remember this when it was on T.V. That's been quite a few years ago now... Very nice picture! Everything has this soft look to it.

Sorry for the lack of technical terms in this lol. One can't expect too much in a comment when out of it on cold medicine. ;P
